April Sports Round Up

Kristan Mouat —

Our students have had some outstanding results locally, regionally and nationally recently.

In Marching, Jacinta Burney, Victoria Fisk and Cassara Keen represented Otago at the National Champs in Hamilton in March and their team, Onyx Militaires were named Overall National Champions of their grade.

In the South Island Sailing regatta we had some impressive performances: Theo Molteno and Linus Molteno won the Gee Trophy in the Non-Spinnaker Silver Division with Ella Molteno and Pepa Cloughley second. And Miriam Barton and Anna Walrond won the First Girls crew with Ella and Pepa third. We were second in the Shearer Cup, third in the Teams Racing event, and third school overall.

In the South Island Secondary Schools Athletics Champs, Zack Hibbert was first in the Under 14 Hammer Throw and set a new record with 30.8 metres. Nirvana Hepi-Breen was 2nd in Under 14 Discus and 2nd in Shotput.

Annie Kennedy Atchison continues to excel in Surf Life-Saving. At the 2018 South Island Championships, she won U16 Ski Champion, U16 Tube rescue Champion and was second in the U19 Ironwoman.

Last week our Senior Mixed A team won the Waterpolo B Grade Boys final against OBHS in a closely fought battle.

Rawinia Cooper-Parata is in the U19 South Island Maori Netball team and played strongly at the Aotearoa Maori Netball tournament in Gisborne at the end of March.

We had a Japanese High School Kendo martial arts group visit us last month. 20 of our students practise Kendo on Monday evenings.

Our Sports Council has been busy with organising inter-House events and the hotly contested Dodgeball final - held on the last day of Term One.
