Robbie Burns Winners

Arnika Hazelwood —

Strangs, Strings and Company won the youth section of the Robbie Rocks Dunedin competition at the end of January.

Dunedin celebrated Scottish poet Robbie Burns' birthday (January 25) in the Octagon and with a special Burns Night Dinner at Toitu Otago Settlers Museum.
The music competition was to "musically reimagine one of Burns creations" and to modernise his poetry as songs. The Logan Park band won $400 for their creation of Ae Fond Kiss and performed beautifully in the Octagon and at Toitu.

The band were then invited to perform at a special Mayoral reception and literary lunch where the Lord Provost of Edinburgh was a special guest.

Lord Provost Donald Wilson - equivalent to a mayor - and Lady Provost Elaine Brand, joined Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull, Dunedin City Council chief executive Dr Sue Bidrose and about 20 invited guests at the lunch at Toitu Otago Settlers Musuem.

The luncheon was celebrating Dunedin's heritage, culture and status as a Unesco City of Literature.  According to John Dodd, Head of Music, both Mayors were fans of the band.
