At the start of the year we held a Mihi Whakatau to welcome all new students, these included Junior year 9’s, Internationals, and beginning Teachers.

At the start of the day all newcomers met in Manawa Toi Whakaari for a quick debriefing and overall idea of the welcoming process, while the Staff and Senior school assembled in the Learning Center.

The Kapa Haka called the new students in and the formal ceremony of Mihi Whakatau began. The Homeside Tangata Whenua was represented by Matua Tip and Jacobi and both extended a warm welcome to all in hopes for an exciting new adventure. Doctor Thompson and Matua Kane Holmes spoke on behalf of the Visitors Manuhiri and acknowledgements were given to all concerned. After the Korero and waiata Speeches and accompanying songs representatives of both sides met to hongi Traditional greeting.

Food was then shared to end the Formalities then the normal School day began.
