Dance

Danielle Frost —

Semester two of Dance has been a hit!

This is is the first year Year 9 Logan Park students have had Dance as an option. The semester began with a unit called Dance Around The World. Students traveled around the "World" experiencing various genres and looking at the cultural significance of dance in the Countries "traveled" to. This allowed the class to enhance their current repertoire of skills as well as develop knowledge of various cultures dance histories. They have been to India, Ireland, United States, Samoa, South Korea, West Africa and South Africa. The have danced Bollywood from India, Hip-hop from USA, Fan Dancing from Korea, Gumboot Dancing in South Africa to name a few.

Throughout Term 4 we have had the pleasure of inviting others from the local community to share their expertise, including people from Dance schools around Dunedin, volunteers and Senior students from Logan Park. Thanks to everyone who has been involved in supporting the development of Dance at Logan Park.

Students are now working on choreographing their own Dances for the End of Year Junior Show. They are working extremely well on these and I am excited to watch them perform.
