La Galette des Rois by Heike Cebulla-Elder

La tradition annuelle – La Galette des Rois

A month too late – but our French classes all had a taste of the delicious Galette des Rois – at the beginning of February instead on the actual date of 6 January.

An almond cake is shared and the cake has a small figurine = une feve in it. If you are the lucky finder of the feve – you will be the royal of the day and you know what that means!

The tradition is linked to the roman celebration of making a slave a king for the day and the date is linked to the Epiphany. In our classrooms, several kings and queens found the hidden feves and as the youngest in the class distributes the pieces of cake without seeing them, not cheating is possible.

Merci beaucoup a Rosa who baked une Galette des Rois delicieuse for us !
