Rugby at Logan Park

Logan Park's rugby teams are already in full swing. The Under 13's in Year 9 are playing with the Alhambra Union and training on Wednesday night at Opoho Park. With around 6 of our Year 9's running out for the side the future looks promising for Logan Park's rugby teams. The Broncos as they are known had a poor start to the season, but turned it around with a win against Kaikorai in their second game.

The Senior boys have been training for a number of weeks and Tip Winiata puts the boys through a hard fitness session weekly so they were primed and ready for the grading games starting on the 10th of May.

There are lots of boys returning and a healthy dose of new players in the mix. Duncan Trickey (head coach) was happy to bring in Chris Gillett and Todd Aikman as assistant coaches.

The squad are also very happy to have a team of three sports medics join the side-line staff.

New rules will prove interesting this season with stipulations setting out that all substitutes must be used at half time. Of course this only applies to players that attend training sessions.

It will be a tough year for the boys trying to back up a successful Championship last year.

Girls Rugby is bouncing back. After a massively successful Sevens season last year culminating in a semi final loss to Taieri in the semi finals of the Condor Sevens, the girls are now looking to get their first taste of the 15 a-side game.

Logan Park will be combining with Taieri to field a full side. The numbers of girls playing has swelled somewhat with around 11 interested in running out. The girls competition will started on Wednesday the 14th of May with a Have-a-go-Day before the competition officially started on Wednesday the 21st of May.

The girls are still on the lookout for a coach to help with matters and possibly set up a training session on a Tuesday evening.
