Touch Rugby

Term One's Touch season started with a bang. Logan Park had four teams competing in the competition. Here is the juice on the teams.

Logan Park Force

The Force were the Senior Boys team and competed in the Senior A Boys competition. Sean Hall and Jacob Gosling led the team.  Sean continued his hot streak on attack, yet again being the top try scorer. Terrence Taokia wasn't far behind him with his slicing and incisive runs.

The team worked hard throughout the season with star performances especially from the juniors, Owen George and Enric Vallduvi.  Joe McQuillan again showed his merit with great team play and strategy. Unfortunately the competition proved a little too tough for the boys and though they had a number of close battles with the Kings' sides in the competition they didn't muster a win. 

The Fire Birds

The Fire Birds were the Senior A Girls' team.  In Danielle Bruce,  Ashlie Carbines and Becky Barton, they boasted three quality juniors. It was Becky who spurred them on to their first win in the opening game of the season in a tough battle against East Otago,

Becky received the ball on the hooter and carved through the defense to win the game 3–2. Ngapera Andrews led the side through the season and with Izzie Locker and Shylo Moana at her side, she steered the team to respectable sixth position. Lauren Brown was one of the stand out performers. Her direct running was a joy to watch.

The Taniwha

Logan Park Taniwha were the mixed side who played in the Senior Girls' A competition. The team made an electric start to the competition, cleaning up against Columba.  Haziq Hassan and Tait Familton made a potent attacking combination supplemented by the hot stepping Gabe Kennedy-Atchison.  Aglima Poki-Poki and the insatiable Danielle Bruce helped them push up the table. Unfortunately in a tight league, a slip up against a well drilled St Hilda's side, saw them squeezed out of the top four and miss out on the semi finals. A lot of credit must go to their manager-coach Christopher Gillett who ensured the team were well drilled and organised. 

The Ice Ravens

The Ice Ravens were the social/development girls side. Tayla Saunders, Zoe Jamieson and Linda Van der Linde were the heart of the team and they were supplemented by a number of international students, Marie Gabler, Anna Wettler, Julie Lesquit and Paulina Ley added the colour and vibrancy to the team.  A winless season in the Senior Girls B league was made brighter by the development of juniors, Laura Scott and Tanika Herriott and the sportsmanship on display made them a joy to watch and coach. 

Touch restarted at Logan Park late in Term Three with the competition starting in Term Four.  Our Junior Touch Team competed in the Dunedin Schools Junior Sports Tournament at the end of Term Four.
