International TripSnowball Fights by Karen Daly

Too much snow to ski

It’s not often that too much snow is a problem for skiers. However, a school ski trip in mid-June became a non-skiing trip due to blizzards in Wanaka.

Two staff members, a parent helper, 10 international students and 5 Kiwi students had planned to ski for two days. Unfortunately a blizzard meant that Cardrona Ski Field was closed on the first day and then opened late on the second day. The two teachers made the difficult decision to leave without skiing due to concerns about the road conditions. Nevertheless, the trip was still successful as the students had snowball fights, went to Clip ‘n’ Climb to try out the climbing walls, and saw ‘Mad Max’ at the movies.
