Outdoor Music Concert by Janine Hills

Ukulele Band

The Ukulele Band took part in a number of events during Term Four.

Emily Fotheringham, Madeleine Russell, Kai Tane-Elbers and Samayah Madill from the LPHS Ukulele Band took part in a combined ukulele jam/performance led by the NZ ukulele trio 'The Nukes', on Saturday the 22nd of October. The sun was shining as we arrived and set up underneath the sound shell stage, ready with our ukes and folders.

Students arrived from a range of schools across Dunedin, and the audience grew as we started to sing and strum. 'The Nukes' led from the stage, guiding us through the chord changes and more complicated TABs of their songs. Anna Feillet, a teenage songwriter from Dunedin, led the crowd in her original, 'Aroha I Aotearoa' which was truly inspiring for us all. After the show, we were lucky enough to get a photo with 'The Nukes' and for them to sign our ukes. A big well done to Emily, Madeleine, Kai and Samayah on such a successful event!

Not long after, we took part in a collaboration with the Kapa Haka group, playing 'Te Aroha' to open the outdoor music concert on Tuesday the 25th of October. We enjoyed working with the Kapa Haka group and learning such a beautiful waiata.
