Year 12 PE Snowboarding Trip

At 7am on August 20th, Logan Park's Year 12 Physical Education class embarked on an unforgettable trip to Ohau ski field.

Wednesday began with an early morning start, a few laughs and a long drive to the ski field. Once we arrived we all scouted the spas and our rooms, gathering up our warm clothes and some snacks and we made what was thought to be a relatively easy journey up the mountain.

Mrs Frost took on an extra journey of her own, sliding into a ditch up the mountain and needing some students for an extra push. After some muscle power we began the exciting part of the trip...snowboarding!

For many it didn’t take long to pick up the basics of snowboarding, with a number of us already riding the chairlift and coming down the slope on the first day!

Thursday we were up the mountain bright and early and spent all day up there. We had a lesson in the morning and spent the rest of the day testing out our new skills.

Friday was another early morning.  We had a short lesson along with a quick play in the snow and spent the afternoon driving home.

Our trip to Ohau wasn’t just for a great experience; we were up there trying to grab as many NCEA credits as possible. We had a Performance Standard and a Safety Standard which contributed to credits in Level 2 Physical Education.

I think many would agree that snowboarding up at Ohau was incredible.  The rush and thrill coming down the mountain was unforgettable and getting the extra pleasure of watching the United States Ski Team skiing  and making a living out of what they love doing, was incredible.

Snowboarding was a wonderful experience and I would personally recommend to anyone and everyone to try!
