Uni of Otago Information Science Technology Awards

Congratulations to our 2 teams who won 2 of the top 3 awards in the University of Otago Information Science Technology Challenge at the end of Term 2. Year 13 Digital Technology students Zak Booth, Rani Cohen and Michael Lagocki won Best Knowledge of Technology Award and Harrison Kennedy, Aiden Fisher and Nik Ahmad Sabry won The Audience Favourite Award.

The following is the students’ report on the event:

In late June, our Logan Park Digital Technologies team consisting of two sub teams headed to the annual Dunedin Information Science Technology Challenge where we were pitted against teams from other Dunedin schools and one from all the way in Southland.

At the beginning of the day, staff gave a brief overview of some technologies and how they are used in our everyday life. We were then challenged to come up with our own ideas of how to use technology in a real life situation. We were given some examples of existing technology, links to further information, and the staff at the Otago University Business School gave us some guidance on how to prepare and present our ideas to a panel of judges which consisted of industry professionals.

After the Dragon’s Den style pitches, the judges discussed amongst themselves. As always, the judging is a difficult task, but while they deliberated, the audience voted for their favourite presentation.

Logan Park High School Team “Nah Nah Nah” was the winner of the “Audience Choice” category.

The judges voted the second Logan Park High School Team, “Monster Mash” the winner of “Best Understanding of Technology”.
