Dunedin Youth Jazz Festival
All of the learning at overseas workshops, in combination with the rehearsals we have been committing to over the past year, as well as our gigs and busking, all came together for us at this Festival in May.
The bands were now playing at a significantly higher level than before the Australian trip. The Big Bad Big Band won best overall big band, and the Itty Bitty Small Band won best combo. Mr Dodd was bristling with pride! Abe Baillie won best drummer, Alice Houston-Page won best bassist and Jayden Jesudhass won best baritone player. On the next evening, both bands played in a celebratory concert in the Otago Boys High School auditorium.
