Emerging Writing Talent Cathy Zeng by Esther Kristel

Emerging Writing Talent - Cathy Zeng

The New Zealand Society of Authors runs an annual Youth Mentoring Programme, with the support of Creative New Zealand. Every year four aspiring secondary school writers (aged 15-19) are chosen to be mentored by one of New Zealand’s best authors.

The four secondary school students chosen every year each have the opportunity to be mentored by one of New Zealand’s best professional authors in order to develop their craft and hone their writing skills.  The intent of the mentor programme is to foster and develop emerging writing talent with the support of established authors.

This year Cathy Zeng in Year 12 submitted an impressive application in order to be considered for a Youth Mentorship in 2019, including the first chapter of a novel she is working on.

We are thrilled for Cathy and congratulate her wholeheartedly for coming in the top six of applicants throughout New Zealand. Cathy is currently on the Reserve List for a place in this year’s NZSA Youth Mentoring Programme - a very impressive result.
