Secondary Schools Music Festival  by Frankie Vella

Secondary Schools Music Festival

Congratulations to our talented Music department and musicians for their performances in the Otago Secondary Schools 50th Annual Music Festival in August.

Around 80 Logan Park musicians (choir, jazz band, orchestra) performed in the combined massed items as well as standing out in separate performances.

Our jazz band - The Big Bad Big Band performed with stunning  solos from Hamish O'Malley-King, tenor, Finn McKinlay, trombone and Lealia Devereux alto.

John Dodd conducted the orchestra which played Franz Schubert's Symphony No 8, Movement 1 and The Itty Bitty Small Band entertained throughout interval.

Melicen Barber and Mathew Schack, Paper Frogs from Rockquest fame performed "Substance" to rapt attention and Cameron Monteath played the piano with his Chamber Music prize-winning ensemble, Unsung Heroes.

Grace Valentina Cunningham designed the joyous 50th programme cover.

Well done to all our musicians and to John Dodd and Hana Fahy from the music department.
