Theatrefest Competition by Otago Daily Times

TheatreFest 2019 Successes

Congratulations to our winning TheatreFest performers.

Logan Park entered and hosted the TheatreFest 2019 Lower Regional competition in August.  We came away with a number of awards.   2 groups have been selected to go to the regionals in Timaru at the end of August: "Cut" and "15 Minute Hamlet."

Prizes:

Emerging Talent: Cameron Monteith from 15 Minute Hamlet

Emerging Talent: Mae Rose-Wills from Chook Chook

Best Overall Production: Logan Park High School 15 Minute Hamlet, directed by Cameron Monteith, Alice Houston-Page, Casper McGuire

Following are details about the entries:

15 minute Hamlet by Tom Stoppard - a comedy piece performed by Alice Houston-Page, Casper McQuire and Cameron Monteith. Their performance energy and anarchic interpretation of the text entertained the audience and earned them a place in the Upper Regional Finals in Timaru later in August.

Chook Chook by Fiona Farrell.

The third piece was an original piece of theatre co devised by Diane Dupres and Mae Rose-Wills, Marnie O’Shea-Price, Bella McLean, Silva McDowell and Isabel Townsley under the moniker of the Park Players. This hard hitting piece addressed issues around self-harm in teenage girls. This was also chosen to go to the next level.

We were also lucky enough to host The South Canterbury Drama League, presenting Moaner Lisa - a comedy written and directed by Wayne Doyle.

Our adjudicator this year was Bryan Aitken, the director of The Mikado, at the Mayfair. Bryan gave all the teams detailed feedback in order to improve and consolidate their performances.

We are looking forward to hosting this event next year and engage with more members of the acting whanau in Otepoti/Dunedin.
