Year 10 Science Quiz Winners and Science Fair

Congratulations to our Year 10 Scientists who won the Otago Science Quiz.

Maia Jack, Charles Ross, Charlie Bauchop and David Zeng attended the inter-school Year 10 science quiz in Term 2. The quiz was held at Queen's High School and covered a variety of science topics sorted into around six rounds based on each topic.

The middle round was a practical in one of the school's labs. We were given descriptions of some hypothetical patients and their symptoms, as well as a 'urine' sample from each. We then carried out tests on each of the samples to determine which sample came from which patient.

At the end of the quiz, we were equal with another team and had to answer a tie-breaker question. The question was to name the boiling point of nitrogen, or get closer to the answer than the other team. Charlie, on our team, though it was either -194 degrees or -196 degrees. We went with -194 degrees, and the other team guessed -180 degrees. The final answer was -196 degrees and as we were the closest we won the quiz - the first time Logan Park has won it!
