Senior Drama Performance Evening by Diane Dupres

Senior Drama Performance Evening

Our senior drama students presented an evening of theatre at the end of Term 2.

One of the biggest problems with theatre is that you have to work really hard to make things look as if they have only just happened. And when you do it really well, the audience never realises that there are so many things that could have gone wrong.

It is the backstage where you see all the work that has gone into a piece: from the panic stricken search for a lost prop or the quick reciting of that awkward last line that just won’t stick in the memory, to the final hugs and words of reassurance before an actor enters from the wings.

When it is over, the joy of achievement and exhilaration of having survived the whole event bring many to tears and laughter. This is what it means to be part of the Senior Drama Performance Evening. When our Year 11, 12 and 13 students come together to perform sections of scripted or devised Drama, be they an MC, a student Director, an actor or part of the backstage crew, for two nights they work together to create magic on the stage.
