Music Camp by Mr Ott

Instrumental Tuition in Music at LPHS

108 students have enrolled and commenced their course of lessons in a musical instrument for this year. That’s a significant percentage of the overall school roll, and a smart move on the part of the students and their parents. The research continues to grow around the immense benefits of music education which are proven to include improvement in academic learning, social adeptness and physical and mental wellbeing.

There are occasional issues around attendance at the lessons, and so please help by reminding students on their lesson day to take their instrument and their music. It can be helpful for students to take a picture on their phones of the timetable to aid in remembering. Please remember that if your child is sick and unable to attend on that day we need a message to let us know that is the case otherwise the lesson will need to be charged for. Just ring the school and leave a message on the Music department phone (extension 234) or email me at jcd@lphs.school.nz   Even better, some of the instrumental teachers are very good at communicating directly with the families so ask your child to ask for a cell phone number or email address if you don’t already have a contact.

Remember that effective learning happens when regular practice occurs. This should be daily for at least 20 minutes. This way you get the best result from your financial input, and the student will soon be enjoying the activity more as they see their improvement. And please don’t ever complain about the sounds they are making. It’s hard enough getting a new instrument under control without negative comments!
