Congratuations to Mathew Denys, Alexander Woolrych, Connor Seddon, Charlie Hilton and Josephine Devereux for winning prestigious University of Otago tertiary scholarships for 2015 worth $5,000 each.

Congratulations to Ruby Harris and Naomi Ashby-Ryan for their latest film success. 

Students enjoyed the 3D Modelling and Animation Club tutorials on Sunday afternoons at school throughout the year. 

Our students have been involved in the Built Environment and Active Transport to School (Beats) survey this year.

The Logan Park community thanked the many homestay families who have been hosting our international students. 

We enjoyed farewelling our Senior students and celebrating their successes at our Senior Prizegiving in early November. 

House Deans, teachers and Year 13 Leavers shared breakfast on the last day for seniors in the Learning Centre.  

Tayla Ward (15) has been selected for New Zealand's first women's Luge team which will compete in World Cup events in Europe during December and January.  

Congratulations to Lily Menzies, Year 10 for her Gold Medal in Pairs at the 2014 National Champs. 

The Art Department impressed everyone with their Senior Exhibition in early November. 

Year 12 and 13 students appreciated showing their friends and whanau their short films and film trailers in October.

Simon Mannering is a professional rugby league player who currently captains the NZ Warriors in the National Rugby League. 

Congratulations to Runa Falanitule, Year 13 and Reva Grills, Year 11 who were awarded Mana Pounamu awards for being top young Maori achievers.

Josephine Devereux won First Place in the Dunedin Young Adults section of the Moon Festival Poetry competition, organised by the Dunedin City Council. She was presented with her prize at the Awards Ceremony in October.   

Students liked the chance to try out professional  DJ equipment during lunchtime early in Term 4. 

Congratulations to Jacobi Kohu Morris and Ella Yiannet who won the country's top honours in Year 12 and Year 11 at the 2014 New Zealand Historical Association Awards, announced at the end of October. 

Six students from Logan Park's Learning Support class enjoyed success at the regional Special Olympics Aquatics event at Moana Pool in October. 

The extraordinary contribution of teacher, director and playwright Denise Walsh, to Logan Park High School was honoured in a naming ceremony on October 20.

An Underwater Christmas was the name of this year’s Junior Show.

Congratulations to Karen Penaia and Emma Samuels for their Young Pasifica Awards.

Congratulations to Grant McNaughton, Year 12 who won $5,000  for his outstanding scientific presentation as part of the National Eureka Sir Paul Callaghan Award Finals, in October,  in Wellington. 

Congratulations to gymnast Stephanie Devereux, who won a gold medal in the National Rhythmic Gymnastic Championships, in October. 

Congratulations to Year 9 student George Sabonadiere who won the National Spelling Bee title in October in Wellington. George competed against 15 other Year 9 and 10 regional representatives to win.

On Thursday 4th of September to Saturday the 6th, the Logan Park High School Senior A Boys Basketball team partook in the 2014 Zone 4 A Premiership Basketball Tournament at the Edgar Centre, Dunedin. 

For the second year in a row the Logan Park team of Cameron Bayne, Max Riddle and Ben Clayton have won the prestigious Otago Daily Times Extra Newspaper current events quiz from sixty five other Dunedin teams.

It was great to see two teams from Logan Park competing in the semi-final round of the Junior Division of the Dunedin Schools’ Debating Competition on September 3rd.

A number of senior students appreciated the opportunity to come to Spring School during the first week of the September holidays to complete NCEA assessments.  

We enjoyed the last day of Term 3 with our annual Outdoors Music Concert.  Music students appreciated the chance to play to hundreds of their peers, with professional sound provided by Strawberry Sound.  

Our Student Council organised a novel fundraising event as part of Youth Week in the last week of Term 3. 

Our annual Talent Quest was held in Term Three  as part of our Interact organised Youth Week festivities.

Jim Azevedo, the marketing manager from Smashwords, Ebook publishers gave an interesting presentation to aspiring writers in Term 3.

At 7am on August 20th, Logan Park's Year 12 Physical Education class embarked on an unforgettable trip to Ohau ski field. 

I was chosen to go to Shanghai to represent Dunedin with 4 other students and a teacher. 

Our talented Music Department are always busy.    Our Orchestra, Jazz Band and Chamber musicians performed in the massed items of the Otago Secondary Schools' Music Festival in Term 3.

Our annual International Food Festival featured wonderful food from India, Thailand, Myanmar, China, Japan, Germany, Britain, Vietnam, Poland, New Zealand and many other countries. 

Congratulations to all of our Blues recipients at our annual Blues Assembly.

On Wednesday 17 September we celebrated the students who completed their UBS sponsored reading challenge.

Drama students enjoyed hearing from Hollywood/New Zealand actor, and ex-Head Boy, Tim Foley.

The Junior Greek Festival was a celebration of a term's work in Year 10 Drama.

We had a wonderful music concert and hangi as a fundraiser for the Manu Korero group who travelled to Napier to compete in the national competition in the last week of term 3. 

Congratulations to our 2014 Year 9 Scholarship winners.  16 students received Board of Trustees scholarships for their outstanding performances in academic, sporting, cultural and community activities. 

Snow Caving is an absolutely beautiful experience

Students at Logan Park High School are encouraged to explore, watch, research and interpret an array of genres within the realms of theatre.

Two ex-students came back to school to share their experiences on the international stage.

Year 12 student Meran Campbell-Hood won the overall Otago Science and Technology Fair, Best in Fair Award for her display, "North by North-West."  

Jacobi Kohu-Morris was invited to be the guest speaker at the NZ First conference in Auckland in July. 

Our school thinks our change to wood pellets is worth it for the environment.

Connor Seddon and Mathew Denys were presented their ODT Class Act Awards, celebrating Excellence by Prime Minister John Key. 

Logan Park is a school that includes a diverse range of nationalities. Besides our ESOL students we have a growing number of students who were born overseas and have now chosen New Zealand in which to settle. They come from countries such as China, Thailand, Vietnam, Ethiopia, India and Brazil.

The first week of term was a busy one with a group of 19 Wakamatsu students from Japan visiting the school. A group of students from Wakamatsu visit each year, but this was one of the larger groups we've had recently. 

The day that all girls look forward to. You spend the whole day getting ready. Making sure you have everything. The hair, the make-up, the shoes, the bag, the accessories, the dress. Everything has to be perfect and as the Formal Committee it was our job to make sure the whole occasion went off without a hitch.

On Wednesday 25th of June our van with eight international and four Kiwi students from Logan Park set off to Wanaka on an organised ski trip to Cardrona. 

We enjoyed showcasing our school on Open Morning and Open Day during Term 2.

Congratulations to our wonderful school librarian Jenny Millar who was awarded Honorary Life Membership of SLANZA — School Library Association of New Zealand Aoteroa, Te Puna Whare Matauranga a Kura. 

Logan Park High School did very well in the Dunedin Secondary Schools Poetry Competition, with 5 out of 8 of the 'places' (highly commended included) going to our school.

Karaoke Week was the bomb! It was held in the last week of Term 2. We had lots of fantastic acts and entertainment.

In the last week of Term Two, all of the Year 8 students from Tahuna Intermediate School visited our school for rock-climbing lessons on our climbing wall in preparation for their outside experience at Long Beach in Term Three.

The Drama department were delighted to host the 2014 Junior Shakespeare Festival on June 26th.

Our Media Studies students were invited to film two short segments for TV 3's comedy show, 7 Days. The show involves famous New Zealanders and comedians taking a look at the week's news and having a laugh.

Logan Park High School hosted a Pink Ribbon Breakfast on Wednesday 28th May to raise funds for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

Mathew Denys Year 13, was selected to attend the World Science Conference in Jerusalem, Israel in August, along with 5 other top science students from around New Zealand.

LPHS students Pippi Miller and Josephine Devereux  joined the Fortune Theatre School Ambassador Programme this year.

Paul Enright (Head of Social Sciences at Logan Park High School) and Lara Hearn (ex-LPHS student and currently teacher at Queens' High School) were invited by Pita Sharples (Minister of Maori Affairs) to the national launch of the NZ secondary schools' History Teaching and Learning Guide for NCEA, which Paul and Lara co-wrote for the Ministry of Education.

We had two teams of Year 9 and 10 students participating in the Dunedin Secondary Schools' Scrabble Tournament at the Dunedin Public Library in May.

Ella Dodd and Malakai Maamaloa were our school's 2014 The Edge Radio interns. They were able to get industry experience in scripting and voicing radio advertisements as well as organising school-wide events.

The following is Ava Straw's winning writing from the 'Murder in the Bookshop' event for the Dunedin Writers and Readers Festival 2014. The writing had to be 150 words, based on 'found' objects at UBS (including a dead body!).

Our Charities Group – Cupcake Friday was enthusiastically supported by more than 200 people and raised $240 for the Red Cross to use for flood relief work in the Solomon Islands.

Logan Park had 10 girls playing rugby in a combined side with Taieri this year.

Milford Sound was named as the eighth Wonder of the World by Rudyard Kipling. And now I have lots of reasons to agree with him. Recently our group of international students went on a trip to Milford Sound.

Traditionally Logan Park High School Teams have done very well winning the contest from 2009 and our other teams making the top four. Questions cover the books and authors nominated for the awards as well as sections on History, Geography, Science and General knowledge.

Logan Park High School Drama Department represent Otago as regional winners at The Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand Competition.

On Thursday 19 June four teams competed in the ODT Spelling Quiz. There were 45 teams from all schools in Dunedin. Two of our teams came third equal together (96 out of 100).

Logan Park entered a Senior team in the Senior B section of the 2014 Otago Secondary Schools Netball Tournament.

Year 11 International Hospitality students ran a very successful Market Stall on Thursday 19th June at interval.

The Choral Federation’s annual school choir competition The Big Sing, was held in the Dunedin Town Hall on Wednesday 18th June.

This annual competition was held at Marama Hall on the weekend of 14/15 June, with the Final on the Sunday evening.

The finals of the Smokefree Rockquest were held at Sammy’s Nightclub on the evening of June 7, with the heats three weeks prior at the Kings High School Performing Arts Centre.

On June 20th the international students had an International Concert in the auditorium. All the international students performed and their teachers and host families were impressed by the performances.

Year 9 Digital Technology students recently participated in a video Skype chat with Southside High School students from North Carolina in America.

The recent Year 10 camp was a great success, with over 50 students attending, including senior students.

Over 80 students from 30 countries celebrated Race Unity at a special assembly in Term One.

All of the Year 10 classes enjoyed their Outdoor Education Camp at Tautuku, in the beautiful Catlins area in Term One and Term Two.

Every year we have several teams of students and recent ex-students combine to enter the 48 Hour Furious Film-making competition.

Connor Seddon says delivering an award-winning speech is all about timing.   Connor won the Otago-Southland Rotary four-way speech competition for 2014.

Pippi Miller won a gold medal in the Under-17 Women's Foil at the New Zealand National Fencing Championships in Wellington in April.

At the end of Term One we had six students from the Career Pathways class attend a KiwiHost Course.

Taloha ni, Kia orana, Malo e lelei, Fakaalofa atu, Ni sa bula, Kia ora, Talofa lava, Greetings.

For nine nights of our New Caledonia trip we stayed with local families. We were put into groups of two or three students and each group had a different host family.

The Spirit of New Zealand left Auckland on Thursday 12th of May, with forty students on board from four schools all around New Zealand. Our team called themselves the ‘Southern Constellations’.

During our visit to New Caledonia in April, fifteen students and two staff members had the opportunity to represent New Zealand at the ANZAC day dawn service in Noumea.

Term One's Touch season started with a bang. Logan Park had four teams competing in the competition. Here is the juice on the teams.

The Logan Park High School French Trip to New Caledonia was on 18th–29th of May.

Year 12 student Tuhin Baucus scored 39 out of 40 in the 2014 American Latin examination, putting him in the top 1% worldwide.

Pippi Miller had the lead role of Rab in the locally produced short film "Infamous" written and directed by Susan Marshall.

On the 18th of May, Liam George and I traveled down to Bluff, from there we took the ferry to Stewart Island and boarded 'The Elwing' named after an elf in Lord Of The Rings. 

On Thursday March 13th, we marked the retirement of Cathi Graham, our HOD International Department, with a splendid morning tea and tributes for a job well done over 18 years.

Alice McNoe has won the Otago Schools Orienteering Champs in her age group.

A number of Logan Park writers have featured in Dunedin newspapers in 2014.

Denise will be remembered fondly by her extensive Logan Park High School whanau for her immense contribution to our Kura over 47 years as HoD Drama, House Dean, teacher, director, stage manager, playwright, caregiver, school garden designer, colleague, and friend.

Our Public Speakers competed successfully in a number of competitions throughout the year.

Congrats to Kate Denys, Erica Stedman, Jaren Roy and Shania Quinn for making Otago Rep teams for Basketball this year.

Students achieving Scholarship, NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3 with Excellence Endorsed Certificates, and juniors achieving Junior Diploma with Distinction were celebrated with a special morning tea in March.

We all enjoyed meeting parents/caregivers and whanau of our new students at the end of February.

Every year Logan Park has a lot of fun on our Sports Day. This year was no exception, with all students across at the Caledonian Grounds competing in a range of events.

Logan Park students competed and took first place in the 2014 South Island Secondary Schools Sunburst Regatta.

A group of a dozen high school students from Shanghai in China spent two weeks in Dunedin recently as part of a sister city summer school.

On Friday the 28th of February over 50 music students from all levels departed in order to spend the weekend at Music Camp out at Tirohanga.

Logan Park entered two teams in the 2014 Otago-Southland Russell McVeagh Debating Competition

Logan Park had 9 students participating in the Special Olympics event this year.

A three day tramp to Stewart Island is what some of us Internationals, had the luck to experience!

On the 17th of March, Year 12 biology students made their journey out to Portobello across the harbour from Port Chalmers.

Ex-Logan Park student Abby Wolfe (17) was selected for the NZ Performing Arts Team to compete in America at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Hollywood, in July this year.

Several students have taken to the sea with a surf board this term to learn how to ride a wave.

Logan Park High School students represented the environment at a protest against Oil Drilling.

At the end of 2013 students were given the opportunity to enter the Toitu, Robbie Burns Song Writing Competition.

Last year three of our top Year 12 students were selected to represent Logan Park High School at the University of Auckland and Rotary Science and Technology Summer School.

Our annual House Day gave us a wonderful opportunity to introduce and include all of our new students into our effective House/Group pastoral system.

It has been wonderful to see our Logan Park family expanding with the addition of Amber Fraser-Smith and James Govan.

Roger Tobin was farewelled from Logan Park at the end of January. The evening ceremony and supper was one befitting his character.

At 9am on Wednesday 5 February all Year 9 students were treated to a wonderful performance by the Itinerant Music teaching team as they demonstrated a wide range of instruments.

The Senior Girls Volleyball teams have had a fantastic 2014 season; we feel all the players improved their skills phenomenally over the season and we received excellent coaching from both Mrs Frost and several other visiting coaches.

This year saw the Park Rangers reunited, albeit in a combined team with Bayfield.

On the 25th September 2014, the Year 12 P.E class went to Northeast Valley Normal School to coach the primary school kids. 

Otago Secondary School Sports Assn held the annual Leaders Breakfast on Friday 11th April. 

The senior girls' futsal team played in their first league competition during Term 1 of this year and their second league competition across the third and fourth terms. 

The Logan Park Climbing Club has had a brilliant year. 

This year the Homework Club on Thursdays after school in the Whare has been very successful.

The Term 4 Futsal league proved to be one of great improvement since the Term1 league. 

Second year in a row best speakers

The Logan Park Student Sport Council has had a very successful year.

We’ve had another exciting and rewarding year in English and Media Studies classes and in all the related extra-curricular areas.

We had the pleasure of coaching the Junior Girls Volleyball team this year for both Term 1 and 4. 

Don is legendary in the Art community as an artist and fantastic teacher.   

One of our top gymnasts, Shannon Thorsnes, (17 ) who is in the New Zealand Gymnastics team, competed in the Australian National Championships in Melbourne, in June competing in the Ribbon, Ropes, Clubs and Ball in a week long event. 

The LPHS 1st XI Hockey team had another successful season this year.

On Monday 22nd of September a rōpū of students and three teachers travelled to Napier for Ngā Manu Kōrero Nationals. 

The Curators' Club is a small select group of students that come together every Monday to discuss and organize upcoming art exhibitions. The exhibitions are held by students for other students to look at.

This year indoor rowing championships were held for the first time in the gym using the new projector and giant white board. 

We have had a lot of sports successes this year featured throughout the magazine.

Otago Secondary School Sports Assn held a meeting of all Dunedin Secondary School Sports Prefects in March. 

This year was another fantastic year for Basketball at Logan Park High School. 

Logan Park has a reputation for winning the Otago Classics Quiz, and this year they did again! 

A productive year: 2014 has once again been busy and productive for the LPHS Science Department.

Exploring Careers and Building Skills: Throughout the year we have facilitated and/or funded students attending courses, taster events, and experiences to help explore various careers and /or assist in obtaining work whether it be part-time or full-time.

The Otago Secondary School Sports Assn organise a Junior Sports Tournament each year that all Secondary schools are eligible to enter.

Otago Cross Country and Logan Park Road Race

Year 10 student Tristan Howard took part in the National Parade of Significance in Wellington in November to celebrate 150 years of Cadet Forces in New Zealand.

Another very good year for Boys' badminton at Logan Park with three teams playing on Wednesdays after school at Badminton Hall.

On the 17th September the Sir Edmund Hilary Outdoor Pursuits Centre held the annual Otago/Southland Get 2 Go Challenge. 

For the past several years the Kapa Haka group has been involved in many areas around school service.

 Although several talented senior players left last year, it has been great to see keen, beginner junior players coming along to play in the warmth of the Westpac Bowls Centre over winter and the future of bowls at LPHS looks very promising.

Mana Pounamu Awards is a secondary school Maori scholarship prize-giving. 

Cricket this year has grown stronger with our team becoming older, taller and physically stronger.

The Maths Department has continued its excellent record of some outstanding achievements this year.   Results of various competitions follow. 

To some musicians at Logan Park, term two is the term of no free lunchtimes, of bringing an instrument to school every day, weekend rehearsals and generally having their lives be consumed by perpetual practices. 

Our Logan Park Mixed team won the Mixed Dodgeball competition in the Junior Sports Tournament in Term 4. They played 8 games winning all 8. Their toughest competition was East Otago High School and Roxburgh in the final.

Environmental action started with a bang this year when dozens of enthusiastic students across all years united to campaign against deep sea oil drilling in New Zealand. 

“Taieri Mouth is too dangerous for swimming at House day!” was what the lifesavers told PEF.

Instead of sitting the recent NCEA exams, a group of 15 international students had the opportunity to take part in a variety of fun and educational activities during the International Summer School.

In Writers’ Group we get up to all sorts of shenanigans.  Every Monday lunchtime, we meet in the greatest English teacher’s classroom, (Rm 12) with Queen Ms MacTaggart.  

Fantastic results again this year from our budding sociologists.

This year Logan Park has enjoyed a wealth of student bands from all year levels.

We are so spoiled in the Music Department, because every school day of the year we are treated to the creative sounds that our wonderful students create, and we get to witness the growth in skills, and the development of the ensembles that we support.

The Technology department is very proud of the success our students have had this year. Many of the projects completed this year have been absolutely phenomenal and it is always pleasing seeing students taking ownership from start to finish and admire the finished product.

Four teams were fielded this season — a Senior A and B, an Intermediate A and a Junior A. These were coached by Morgan Pullein a Masters of Education student at the school, Cindi Ngamoki with the assistance of Kylie Foxton, Rachel Spronken-Smith and Georgia Guthrie and Karen Penaia respectively.

It may interest you to know that Drama prefects have no official duties. So when Josephine and Saskia assumed the positions this year, they set out to ensure that next year’s would have a legacy to live up to. And thus, Theatre Sports was conceived.

Junior futsal continues to grow from strength to strength as we started the year with 5 teams across the boys and girls leagues. 

2k14 saw the Logan Park Film Club reunited under the governorship, as usual, of Craig Storey. 

Logan Park has their own set of poi toa made by our very own 9G! 

This year Student Council saw the best and the worst of human nature, but only on YouTube as it seems that the rest of the school forgot that we exist. 

On the 8th March 41 Logan Park students represented our school at the Otago Secondary School Athletics Championships. 

As always, Omimi has had a great year. 

2014 has been a hugely successful year for Maori and Pacific Island students at Logan Park.

You’re probably aware that Clayton is the greatest house. Well, we’re also the most gracious.

Another year, another batch of Year Nines welcomed into the big happy complex family that is Toroa.

As with most years, we farewelled some great jazz band members who moved on to study at university. 

Another great year in the library with all the latest new fiction added to our collection.

Being in the Pacific Island Pearls has been such an amazing experience. 

In March LPHS welcomed 24 new international students, including a group of seven Thai students who were here on a month-long visit to experience a New Zealand high school.

Over the past year, students have taken part in a large range of topics which were designed to not only improve their understanding of how Health & physical Education can improve their own personal ability, but also learn a whole raft of skills which are vital to becoming a well-rounded adult.

On Monday afternoons we head down to the harbourside to go sailing. 

This year saw a new era in girls' football as the majority of senior players left and the squad was made up mainly of junior Y10 players. 

At the end of every year I find myself thinking about what the next year will bring.

Thursday Secondary School Tennis runs in Term 1 and 4. 

This year the junior teams went on to prove that their coaches were better than the coaches of any other school, especially Columba.

Three teams took the field for the Term Four Touch competition. The weather hindered their progress and game time, yet never dampened their spirits.

The Alliance Française held its annual Oral Concours at the University of Otago on 16 August 2014 and we were very proud that Ava won First Prize in Year 11 French in a wide field of very able French speakers from Otago/Southland.

The inaugural Logan Park Chess Championships were held in September 2014. 

On June 6th, a small group of Logan Park students including myself went to Invercargill to the Nga Manu Korero regional competition at the Civic Centre. 

Logan Park High School has run a successful Peer Reading Programme for many years now. 

Glass ceilings of oppression, get-out-of-jail-free cards and lactation. What links these three phrases? One word: Debating.

Writing continues to be in good heart at Logan Park. Our annual senior writing competition attracted many talented pieces. 

As Head Boy I’m not actually sure what I’m supposed to be writing here. It’s easy enough for captains and leaders of clubs because they have a specific role throughout the year.

When Mr. Dude asked me to write an article about the Logan Park Choir 2014, my mind blew up in a whirlwind of memories. How can one describe the hilarious moments we experienced in our Wednesday and Friday gatherings? 

With 2014 rugby season, came quite considerable expectations for the Logan Park XV.

2014 has been (as ever) an eventful one for Logan Park's resident orchestra! 

Logan Park had two competitive senior boys teams playing in the futsal competitions this year. 

Logan Park's Senior Boys Volleyball team played in Term 1 and 4.

The Te Roopu class has had a lot of changes this year. 

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today, to celebrate the end of another full and busy year at Logan Park.
