Our Get2Go team are training hard for the nationals in December. Sir Edmund Hillary found that when he was in a difficult or dangerous situation, someone who could make everyone laugh would ease the tension.

This year has been a year of high achievement in the Sciences, with Logan Park students selected for coveted places in a variety of sectors.

The last day of term 3 for many of our Logan Parkers was marked by their senior formal, held under the ¨Starry night¨ theme on Friday the 25th of September.

We were fortunate with the weather for our annual House Days held in February.

We enjoyed a great Athletics Day in February.

We welcomed 11 new staff at the start of 2020 and have appreciated their efforts and contribution to our school.

Year 12 and 13 Media students hosted a spectacular film night where they showcased their films in November.

The 2020 season water polo season was a great success. Two mixed teams competed in the secondary schools B-grade boys competition.

The Sports Council have had a great time planning and running the interhouse competitions this year! The energy and enthusiasm that we receive from the school is what makes this job so rewarding.

There is no doubt that Clayton is the best house at Logan Park. The enthusiasm and spirit of the students proves just that. We started the year with our Clayton House Day out at Aramoana Beach, which of course, in great Dunedin fashion, was postponed due to weather.

Wow. What a year it has been for all of us. 2020 has certainly given us many surprises, however, what hasn’t been surprising is the success that Aoraki has had this year.

The Junior Writing Competition always gathers in some fantastic writing; some of it arising from the English programmes of the various Year 9 and 10 classes and some of it produced at home by keen writers stretching their thinking and their skills.

Our Rugby teams had a great time playing and learning this year.

Congratulations to Laura Canton who won the Dunedin and then Otago regional Rotary Speech competition.

We held our Junior Public Speaking competition in November.

This year the girls' football season was much shorter than usual spanning only 5 weeks of Term 3.

The girls' futsal season this year was enjoyable and competitive for all involved.

2020 saw an unsettled year for the all netball teams. Covid meant that the season started a term later with fewer games than usual.

This year was looking to be a big year for handball at Logan Park, with the New Zealand Schools' Handball Tournament happening at the start of April, with both a boys and girls team due to attend. Due to COVID-19 it was unfortunately cancelled so Term 1 consisted of 3 teams in the schools' league playing on Wednesday, and increased to 4 teams in term 4.

Cricket is alive and well at Logan Park High School in 2020.

In late term 1, our top futsal team had hoped to travel to Wellington to compete at the national secondary schools tournament. Our placements there over the past few years hadn’t been as high as we would’ve liked, which showed in our determination to train and to improve, which we started in December 2019.

This year's senior event was run a little differently than other years. We gave the school a week of fun events and activities, hoping to re-invent the idea of a ‘prank day’ to be a week of creating memories for the whole school.

Our junior Drama students have worked hard this term to produce their Junior Show.

We enjoyed seeing the junior dance students perform their solo and duo choreographed pieces in November.

Congratulations to Jorja Hutton, Year 13 who has been a Gateway student this year.

As part of the Year 11 Physical Education programme at Logan Park, we take our students out to Long Beach to complete two assessments for credits.

In the term 3/4 school holidays, the LPHS chess team placed 5th overall in the New Zealand National Interschools Finals chess championship, absolutely creaming most of their opposition and ending with one of the best performances of any Otago team in the competition’s history.

Due to Covid some of our usual competitions either didn’t happen or were reduced. The regional Senior and Junior O’MAthalon was cancelled as was the Australian CAT (Computational and Algorithmic Thinking) Competition.

Late in August, we were delighted to welcome Sean Hogan from the Dunedin study based at the University of Otago to speak to our year 12 and 13 Biology students.

The 2020 year 12 Physical Education ski/snowboard trip took place this year at the Cardrona Ski Field near Wanaka.

Fantastic wins to both Logan Park Junior Girls and Junior Boys Handball Tournament teams who won their respective competitions at the Local Dunedin OSSSA Handball Tournament on Monday 16th November.

We celebrated our Senior Prizegiving and farewelled Year 13 leavers in November.

We celebrated Junior Prizegiving in December. Congratulations to all students who graduated with their Junior Diploma.

This year has gone amazingly fast and before we know it, another year has come to an end but what a year it has been.

This year the Otago Art Society hosted the Hope and Sons Art Awards.

Friday 16th of October saw Logan Park participate in Pink Shirt day, a day to celebrate diversity and individuality.

This year has been filled with amazing success for Logan Park’s senior boys Football team.

On Thursday 29th October, Sam from Orokonui Ecosanctuary came to visit some of our year 9 students as part of their Ecology unit.

What a fun half week it was!

The 2020 Student Council have achieved a great many things this year, despite some of our plans being shaken up by Covid-19 and lockdown.

2020 has been a successful year for the recently founded Logan Park E-Sports Club, with wins against Otago Girls and Kings High School in League of Legends.

This year, the robotics club has been working on developing a robot to play pong with itself.

Folios from level 1, 2 and 3 and across the fields of Painting and Photography were displayed in the senior end of year art exhibition in November.

This season the LPHS colts hockey team had a great run, we were able to win many of our games but we struggled against teams with people that were way older and bigger than ourselves. However there would always be a great team atmosphere and a lot of lively spirit within the team no matter what the results.

We said farewell our Year 13 students on Thursday 12 November.

Esther Tamati completed her year 13 Food Technology project where she developed a Romantic Food Bag using products from the Otago Farmers market which people could collect from the market.

Logan Park High school started the year with a very diverse student body including a variety of nationalities.

The Boys Hockey 1st XI had a great year despite not quite reaching their potential in the final standings due to losing some very tight critical games at the end of the season.

This year Logan Park students Ava Reid and Ella Verberne, were part of a dance crew from RASA School of Dance called DFYNT.

Despite the year behind us, for the Logan Park High School Year 11 and 12 drama students, the show must go on!

A lot of stuff was happening in the LPHS Library in early Term 4.

Our orchestra enjoyed a road trip in October.

We enjoyed our School Cross Country event in October.

Congratulations to Aubrey Alsop Mackie for achieving the top mark in New Zealand in the recent ICAS Maths competition.

Congratulations to Bill Campbell, Year 11 for topping the NZ ICAS Digital Tech exam.

Year 9 Latin students completed an ancient Roman-style scroll project, and composed original stories based on their own imaginations or on the characters in the Cambridge Latin textbook.

We managed to reschedule our Year 10 camps to Term 3.

Senior students organised a number of activities for the last week of Term 3.

After our school Athletics Day which is always a highlight for the whole school, the Otago Secondary School Athletics Championships were held in March.

We have all enjoyed being able to get back into some sports in Term 3.

Term 4 continues to be busy with lots of students involved in a range of areas.

Our Kapa Haka group performed in Assembly in celebration of Te Wiki o te Reo Maori - Maori Language Week in September.

In September Year 13 Chemistry students spent a Saturday doing the practical work for their big internal on Quantitative Analysis.

The Playhouse Theatre team which includes lots of Logan Park students were using our auditorium to rehearse and stage their holiday production in September.

Congratulations to Nico Alvarez Rey-Virag who was elected as Student Rep on the Board for 2020-2021.

Roslyn McLean received an Excellence Award at the Celebrate Art Show in September.

In August the Otago Polytechnic Culinary Arts Dessert Evening was held.

In term three there is a reading challenge for all of Year 9, as part of their library program.

During the Term 3 senior exams the international students who are not doing NCEA enjoyed 3 days of outings around Dunedin and Otago.

Careers students visited Dunedin Community College, Dunedin Training Centre and Otago Polytechnic, in September to get an idea of what could be a next step for them.

Our Year 10 French and Korean classes discovered each other’s language and culture through organising a fashion show together in September.

On Saturday, 5 September three Logan Park students took part in the annual French speech competition organised by the local Alliance Francaise and held at Columba College.

The 2020 season started at the end of term 2 with 4 weeks of internal games to warm up and trial the 65 players across the year levels.

Congratulations to our team who won the Otago Premier Mixed division of the Hilary Outdoors Get 2 Go Challenge Adventure race in September.

We welcomed 11 new staff at the start of this year.

Congratulations to our Head of Science, Dr Murray Thompson whose excellent work has been recognised with a national award.

The NZ Engineering Science Competition took place on Saturday the 1st of August.

Congratulations to Paxton Hall who was placed second in NZ in the NZ Physics and Maths competition organised by the Universities of Auckland and Canterbury.

In August we were lucky to host Associate Professor James Scott from the University of Otago.

Congratulations to our chamber music groups who impressed in the Otago regional competition.

Our interhouse lunchtime events featured an exciting O'MAthalon in July.

Drama students enjoyed a full day's physical theatre workshop with Zen Zen Zo in July.

Logan Park Jazz had an extremely successful day on Friday 14 August at the 3rd annual Dunedin Youth Jazz Festival, held in the OBHS Auditorium.

In our 9X Social Studies class, we got to work on Action Research projects.

A huge congratulations to Mark Campbell (Year 9) and Bill Campbell (Year 11) for their successful entries into the 2020 Aurora Energy Otago Regional Science Fair.

This year the Otago Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships were run alongside the Otago Club Cross Country Championships at Chisholm Park Golf Course on a fine but windy day in August.

We enjoyed showcasing our school for Open Day in July.

We enjoyed some awesome entertainment in the last week of Term 2 with Karaoke Week.

On Tuesday 30th of June, our Korean class had an exchange with Wimi Junior Highschool.

안녕하세요 Welcome to (in my opinion) the best language, Korean. It has only been half a year (when this was written) and we have already learnt so much about South Korea’s culture, language and history. So why don’t I explain what Korean has to offer.

Students have been very busy creating in Materials Technology.

Student Sports Council have been very busy since March organising and running inter house competitions that have been a great success.

During the Co-Vid19 lockdown we appreciated all the support from our community.

Food Technology and Hospitality students have been busy in the kitchen since our return to school eager to roll up their sleeves and do some cooking.

We enjoyed seeing our Jazz Band performing in Assembly in June.

Media Studies students practised making their friends monsters in June.

Our Student Sports Council have been organising fun Inter-House lunchtime events since we've been in Level 1.

Ben Abraham, Head Boy 2009 returned to speak to students and teachers in June.

In May our climbing wall was refurbished to give climbing students new challenges.

Senior Media students were enjoying being back at school in Term 2, and the opportunity to get going with creating their own short films.

Nearly 40 Year 13 students attended Leadership Camp in March.

Year 13 Physical Education students enjoyed their 2 day Journey around Dunedin in March.

A number of Logan Park students competed in the National bagpiping competition in Invercargill in March.

Logan Park students performed well at the Otago champs in March.

Over the first weekend of March members of the orchestra, jazz band and choir gathered at Tirohanga Camp for the annual LPHS music camp.

We appreciated meeting so many parents and whanau of Year 9 students in March.

2020 has seen a large number of students sign up to be librarians.

Students enjoyed a talk from acclaimed photojournalist Bill Hatcher in February.

Congratulations to our School Head Prefects for 2020.

On January 29 2020 we welcomed 10 new international students from Germany, Austria, Japan and Vietnam.

Mrs Wilkinson's Year 9 Art class had a vibrant start to the year.

Students have been hard at work looking at different wood cutting and printing techniques.

We held a special morning tea in February to celebrate all of our Excellence Endorsed NCEA students and our Scholarship recipients.

A fantastic start to Term 3 with a new batch of 56 Art students with considerable talent and enthusiasm.

Second semester Year 9 Art was based on the Art work of Van Gogh.

Logan Park High School, Dunedin and New Zealanders celebrated the life of Calder Prescott, Dunedin's Jazz Maestro at the end of January.

We have a beautiful new artwork adorning the Gymnasium and facing the road for mountain-bikers, visitors and our school community to enjoy.

We've enjoyed welcoming all the new students as well as 11 new staff to our school at the beginning of the year.
