Nga Manu Korero Speech Competition by Tipene Winiata

Nga Manu Korero Speech Champion

Ahi Kaitai-Mullane won Best Speaker in Otago-Southland for Nga Manu Korero Speech Competition.

Ahi won the Korimako section, the Impromptu section and was placed Best Senior English overall at the event held in Invercargill in June.

CJ Barnes and Esther Tamati also represented the school in the Junior Sections. A small group of supporters accompanied the speakers. Ahi was selected to represent our school and the Otago/Southland region along with other sectional winners from Otago Boys,  Otago Girls and King’s secondary schools.

This year’s Nga Manu Korero National Speech Competition was held in Whangarei in September.  A group of students along with Matua Tip and Lara Liesbeth and Ahi's whanau travelled to Whangarei to support Ahi.

Ahi placed 4th out of 15 in her prepared speech.  Her impromptu speech was judged 5th and she came 6th equal overall which is an impressive achievement against some of  the country's top orators.
