June Sports Round Up

We've had some very strong sporting achievements over the last month.

Congratulations to Ben Deaker (17) who has been selected for the New Zealand Schools Diving Team to compete at the Australian Schools Games in New South Wales in August. At the Diving New Zealand Championships in Hamilton, he came first in Platform, and third in the 3 metre.

Our school Cross Country featured some strong performances. Rebecca Dalphin was the fastest girl overall and Henri Gaudin the fastest boy. 

Cross Country Winners: Boys: Henri Gaudin Over 16, Louis Freeman Under 16, Finn McKinlay Under 15, Daniel Cowles Under 14. Girls: Over 16 Izzie Locker, Under 16 Mary Locker, Under 15 Annie Kennedy Atchison, Under 14, Rebecca Dalphin. 

In the Otago Cross Country Champs, Rebecca Dalphin was second in the U14 Girls. And Louis Freeman and Hamish McKinley placed in the top 10 Senior Boys in Otago. In the Otago/Southland Cross Country Relay, Henri Gaudin, Louis Freeman, Izzie Locker, Rebecca Dalphin won the mixed race.

In Badminton, Otago U15 player, Jorja Hutton won the Girls Singles Plate at the Southland Championships in Invercargill over Queen's Birthday weekend. Our Girls top team have been moved into the top Division for Secondary School Badminton. 

 We had approximately 130 students competing in the Co-Ed Winter Sports Tournament at the end of June. Students  competed in Basketball, Netball, Hockey, Badminton and Football.   We came second overall in the Co-Ed Tournament, winning the Badminton and Hockey.  (See the Co-Ed article for more details in this Park Press).

In Rugby, Finn Lillis has been selected for the Sassenachs U15 Representative team to compete in August. 

In Football, Shae Moore continues to impress in representative football and will travel to Ireland in July with the Otago United team for the SuperCup NI 2016 (formerly known as the Milk Cup).

In Handball, Kate Denys has been selected for the Otago Women's team, and the team competed well in Queenstown over Queen's Birthday Weekend. Otago Handball are working with our PE Department to develop Handball in Otago and grow the sport.

And David Prime and Ola Szukiel excelled in Taekwondo winning gold medals at the South Island Championships with David winning the South Island Poomsae Champions Trophy.  (Read more about their success in the separate article in this Park Press).
