ERO Acknowledgement of "Best Practice"

Logan Park High School was featured again in a national Education Review Office (ERO) publication sent to all secondary schools in June.

The National Report Summaries of National Evaluations showcase best education practice. ERO published key points and findings from their earlier report "What drives learning in the senior secondary school?"

Our school was selected because it had clear connections between our curriculum and the key competencies of the New Zealand curriculum.

ERO reported that "students and teachers understood that learning was the focus of their curriculum and that assessment, while important, did not drive the programme. Teachers maximised opportunities for deep learning. Importantly the senior curriculum was New Zealand Curriculum led. The foundations for the emphasis on learning were established in Years 9 and 10."

The report also quoted a Year 12 Logan Park student: "Here they fit the NCEA into the learning rather than the learning into NCEA. If all the kids are interested and engaged, they will get the results without counting the credits."
