Science Gifted and Talented Selection Ahi Katai-Mullane by Kristan Mouat

More Science Success for Ahi

Ahi Kaitai Mullane (Yr 11) has not only won a place on "Rangatahi O Te Moana", a venture run by the Uni of Otago and NZ Marine Studies Centre, but has also won 2 scholarships for 'Hands on Science".

Ahi applied for the "Hands on Science" hosted by the University of Otago, and applied for a Maori scholarship for the same. She has been successful with both. 'Hands on Science' is held at the university, a residential few days living in halls and doing university level stuff and playing with university toys. It is by application only and only the best get to go!

As mentioned in another article Ahi also got to go on the Rangatahi O Te Moana, University of Otago and NZ Marine Studies 5 day residential programme at Quarantine Island, the Polaris II, and Otakou Marae in August.

Ahi enjoys Science, and her favourite subject is Chemistry. She is considering studying Bio-Chemisty at Otago University in the future. She was also selected for a similar Gifted and Talented Year 10 programme last year and studied the difference in pH levels and the effects on sea creatures.
