ESports

Throughout the first two terms, the ESports club had a lot of action surrounding its active participation in both Otago-wide and National League of Legends Tournaments.

We have one League of Legends team with eight seniors that participate in the NZ Secondary School ESports Tournament coordinated by Victory Up and META ESports.

Our team has had a rough start to the season, we won one preseason-friendly game and our first game by default as the other team was unavailable, but the two following games were unfortunate losses. One of those losses was a crucial rivalry match between Logan Park and Kings High School. As it was being broadcast publicly on the Victory Up Twitch Site for all to watch, the pressure was on. We started off strong, but we began to crumble under the pressure of Kings as they took complete control, forcing us to an unsatisfying defeat. However later we came back from our string of defeats to snatch a win over Hornby High School.

We also have three teams of Logan Park students playing in a Thursday Tournament that is solely Otago Based. Logan Park has a much better standing in this tournament with two teams in the top 5. Our third team are beginners who have only just recently learned how to play the game under the guidance of Tim Jones, the ESports TIC at Logan Park.

Also in Term Two we launched a Minecraft Server! This server is accessible for all at Logan Park so long as they have signed up. It is a safe space for people to come chat and have fun playing Minecraft with their friends. We have been working on implementing more PVP aspects to this as the year progressed.

Furthermore, we have a Tetris tournament on the way! As highly requested by Year 13 students, I am planning a bracket-based tournament that will test students’ skill and prowess in the classic game Tetris. It should be noted that the tournament will be using the competitive-based system where you can line up combos to make your opponent mess up. When the time comes, it will be available for all-year groups to sign up.
