Tool Making by Dick Pirie

Biology and Tool Making

Year 13 Biology students studied Human Evolution during term three. Part of the study is understanding the different designs and techniques for making stone tools and there's Maori fire making (kia hika ahi).

In this activity, the students were making replica stone tools using a potato and a teaspoon. Some very good ‘tools’ were made and looked quite effective (even if they wouldn’t cut well).  Even the trash heaps can tell stories if they fossilize.
