New Zealand Shakespeare team selection

Congratulations to Casper McGuire and Moe Stebbings who have been selected in the top 24 actors in New Zealand for Shakespeare.

The two students will travel to perform at the Globe Theatre in London next July.
The two were noticed after our Logan Park team won the Otago regional Shakespeare competition with their King Lear performance. The Logan Park team went to the Nationals in June in Wellington where Moe and Casper were then selected to attend a further week long audition workshop in the September holidays - along with 48 other invited actors. From the 48 the top 24 were then selected for the Globe trip. Both students are very confident and accomplished performers and actors.

Three Dunedin Pupils Selected for Shakespeare Trip

Three Dunedin pupils have been rewarded for their efforts in acting and costume design with a trip to the Globe Theatre in London next July.

The pupils are three of only 24 Shakespearean actors from across New Zealand selected for the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand (SGCNZ) 2020 Young Shakespeare Company.

Logan Park High School pupils Casper McGuire and Moe Stebbings have been selected for their acting abilities.

Bayfield High School pupil River Charteris-Wright was chosen for her work as a costumier, and for her acting.

Moe said being selected after competing in the SGCNZ national Shakespeare schools' production was something that would take some time to sink in.

"I was told I was in and struggled to keep calm.

"I was so excited.'

Logan Park High School co-principal Kristan Mouat said it was rare for two pupils to have been selected from one school.

"They're both high flyers so it's not surprising.''

The two-week trip would include workshops, rehearsals and Shakespeare-themed tours.

Tuition from directors and rehearsal would culminate in a final performance at the Globe Theatre.

Participants had been chosen on the basis of performative ability, their ability to relate to others and whether they would give back to the community following the trip.

All three agreed performing arts was in their future and both Moe and Casper - who graduate at the end of this year - planned to study drama and performing arts alongside other pursuits.

The three pupils had begun saving the required $9000 each for the trip.
