Rotary Science Forum by Janine Hills

Rotary National Science and Technology Forum

In January, 3 of our students were selected to attend the Rotary National Science and Technology Forum in Auckland.

Year 13 students, Paxton Hall, Cindy Chou and Megan Macdiarmid spent 2 weeks in Auckland immersed in all things science. The forum is organised by Rotary along with Auckland University, AUT and Massey University for outstanding students of science and technology who intend to study these subjects at tertiary level in the future.  170 students from throughout New Zealand are selected.

Workshops and lectures were offered on a diverse range of topics from: physics, microbiology, food science, nutrition, psychology, biomedical sciences, molecular biology, applied Maths, video science, ESR Forensics, robotics through to being entrepreneurial and participating in a Dragon's Den.

They also had lots of social time and sightseeing time which included visiting Weta Workshop Unleased, shopping, trips to the beach, a formal dinner and dance and time to hang out and meet other enthusiastic young scientists.
