NZ Youth Bagpiping Band selection
Oe won a scholarship and traveled to Wellington to attend bagpiping summer school. While there he received a scholarship for next year's summer school 2022 in Christchurch for his great attitude and leadership qualities.
Locally he plays for the John McGlashan pipe band as both pipe major and drum major. They competed in the regional competitions held in February in Dunedin and the band received a winning trophy for the Otago region.
Oe has been accepted into the New Zealand Youth Band.
He regularly attends competitions. This year at the Waimate Caledonian games he won most points in D grade as well as C grade which is the one above his.
He won most points D grade at the Te Anau Tartan Festival and placed in C grade events. He also found time to toss the caber etc in between piping to get first place Junior Strongman (15 to 18 yrs). 2 days later he was competing at Fairlie where he was placed in all events he entered.
He came home with trophies at the last Southland Solo competition in March as well.
He played for the City of Invercargill 4b band for the Band Nationals in March this year as no bands from Dunedin competed. They were 2nd in the country in their grade.
Oe regularly plays at Larnach Castle and haggis ceremonies around Dunedin. He performs at weddings, funerals, birthday parties, Resthomes and any other event requiring bagpipes. He recently played for the opening of the special Olympics, relay for life and laying of the wreath for International Workers Day.
In June he competed at the Queens Birthday competition in Dunedin, one of the big competitions in the piping calendar attracting pipers from all over New Zealand where he was awarded a trophy.
