LU Men's 3x3 RAMS heading to the Land of the Rising Sun

Graeme Campbell —

In the final round of the 3x3.EXE Premier League, Lincoln University secured second place in the South Island Conference to qualify them for the Championship finals in Tokyo, Japan on the 7th & 8th of September.

The LU team of Jayden Chan, Josiah Williams, Ben Hall and Ihaia Kendrew have been solid performers throughout the eight rounds of competition played at ARA Recreation Centre and other venues in Christchurch. The team were runners up in the first two rounds followed by a semi final loss in rounds 3 and 4. Round 5 the side picked up another three points for second place and their first win came in round 6 over Gators 21-16.

In the penultimate round LU were once again losing semi finalists but the accumulation of points, 4 for winning the round, 3 for runner up and 2 each losing semi finalists, kept them in 2nd place behind UC.

In the final round today Lincoln picked up good wins over Atami 21-17 and Wolverines 21-13 in pool play and knocked out any chances Gators had of advancing to the championships with a final 2 pointer when scores were tied on 19 all to go through to play UC in the rounds final.

The size of the Canterbury boys allowed them to get easy points whenever they were close to the hoop nullifying the long range shooting power of LU to have them deserving winners 21-14. This means that UC will advance to the main finals in Japan with the Swish side from Auckland while LU and Auckland University will have to advance through the qualifying tournament.

A Big thanks to BBNZ, CBA and .EXE for all the great work in running the series and to all the referees, coaches and managers involved.
