Class Descriptions
LES MILLS CORE
LES MILLS CORE™ Exercising muscles around the core, provides the vital ingredient for a stronger body. A stronger core makes you better at all things you do from everyday life to your favorite sports - it's the glue that holds everything together. During the workout trained instructors guide you through correct technique as you work with resistance tubes and weight plates, as well as body weight exercises like crunches and hovers. You will also get into some hip, butt and lower back exercises.
BODYBALANCE
BODYBALANCE™ is the yoga-based class that incorporates Tai Chi and Pilates. During BODYBALANCE™ an inspired soundtrack plays as you bend and stretch through a series of simple yoga moves and embrace elements of Tai Chi and Pilates. Breathing control is a part of all the exercises, and instructors will always provide options for those just getting started. You'll strengthen your entire body and leave the class feeling calm and centered.
BODYCOMBAT
BODYCOMBAT is a high-energy, non-contact workout inspired by a variety of martial arts like Karate, Boxing and Muay Thai. An instructor will coach you through powerful punches, kicks, and strikes, so no prior experience is necessary. You will be challenged to up the intensity through invigorating rounds that help you release stress, have fun, and feel like a champion.
BODYPUMP
BODYPUMP™ is a barbell workout for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit - fast. Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. Instructors will coach you through the scientifically proven moves and techniques, pumping out encouragement, motivation and great music – helping you achieve much more than on your own! You’ll leave the class feeling challenged and motivated, ready to come back for more.
STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT
LES MILLS STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT is progressive strength training, meaning each workout focuses on a specific training protocol for building strength over the 12 workouts. Ranging from Foundational Strength, to Hypertrophy, to Pure Strength, while the structure and feel is very different to BODYPUMP™. With great music to drive the workout STRENGTH DEVELOPMENT uses Time Under Tension, & rep-ranges depending on the prescribed protocol of the workout.
RPM
RPM™ is the indoor cycling workout where you take on the terrain with your inspiring team coach who leads the pack through hills, flats, mountain peaks, time trials, and interval training. RPM is a great way to build up your sense of personal achievement. You can draw on the group’s energy and find your rhythm in the music. You control your own resistance levels and speed so you can build up your fitness level over time. It’s a journey, not a race!
BODYJAM
BODYJAM is the cardio workout where you are free to enjoy the sensation of dance. An addictive fusion of the latest dance styles and hottest new sounds puts as much emphasis on having fun as on breaking a sweat. Our instructors teach you to move with attitude through this 55-minute class. So, grab a friend, get front and centre, and get high on the feeling of dance! No dancing experience required!
TONE
If you want the optimal mix of strength, cardio and core training this is it. Step into a LES MILLS TONE class and you’ll tick off a complete workout in 45 minutes. The challenging mix of lunges, squats, functional training and tubing exercises will help you burn calories and take your fitness to the next level. Also, a great foundational class, LES MILLS TONE has a wide variety of options accommodating all fitness levels, ensuring everyone leaves the workout feeling successful.
THE TRIP
THE TRIP™ is a fully immersive workout experience that combines a 40-minute multi-peak cycling workout with a journey through digitally creative worlds. With its cinema-scale screen and sound system, THE TRIP workout takes motivation and energy output to the next level, burning serious calories.
PILATES
PILATES focuses on improving flexibility, strength and body awareness through a series of controlled movements. The exercises are designed to activate and strengthen your core, and while you may fell a burn in targeted areas, the workout remains low-impact. Afterwards, you can expect to feel lengthened, energized, and more open throughout your body. Its gentle nature makes it a safe and effective option for everyone, no matter their age or fitness level. Ultimately, Pilates is a sustainable practice that can be done for life to improve general fitness and overall well-being.
SPRINT
A short, intense style, of training where the thrill and motivation comes from pushing your physical and mental limits. A high intensity, low impact workout, it's scientifically proven to return rapid results. The 30 minutes you put into a Les Mills SPRINT® workout drives your body to burn calories for hours. You combine bursts of intensity, where you work as hard as possible, with periods of rest that prepare you for the next effort. The payoff? You smash your fitness goals, fast.
YOGA
Discover the perfect balance of mind and body in our rejuvenating yoga class. We will guide you through a series of flowing movements and foundational poses designed to build strength, improve flexibility, and enhance your posture. By focusing on your breath, you'll calm your nervous system, release tension, and cultivate a sense of inner peace. You will leave the mat feeling centered, refreshed, and more connected to yourself. Our class is suitable for all levels, with modifications offered to support every individual's journey.
BODYSTEP
In a BODYSTEP workout you can expect a mixture of upbeat, rhythmic stepping, with squat and lunge patterns to work the legs. Combine this with movements like burpees, push ups and weight plate exercises, and the result is a fun, uplifting, full-body workout! There are heaps of options so that everyone leaves feeling successful.
THRIVE CIRCUIT
Full-body strength training delivered in a supportive circuit format that suits all fitness levels. Move through a series of stations combining functional lifts, simple strength exercises, and low-impact conditioning options. Each station can be adjusted to match where you're at - whether you're just getting started or looking to challenge yourself. Work at your own pace, build confidence with weights, and improve strength and overall fitness in a focused 45-minute workout. Come as you are and lave feeling stronger.
LU Lift Lab
A functional class focused on building total-body strength, power and athletic performance. Each session combines progressive resistance training, explosive movement and conditioning. Ideal for anyone aiming to get stronger, move better and improve overall fitness. Whether you're laying the foundation or chasing peak performance, Lift Lab adapts to all levels.
SHAPES
Workouts start with breath and mobility focusing on your neutral spine before moving to core and glute activation. A dynamic, low impact standing series follows, targeting the legs and upper body. For the strength portion, you can choose your path: a Pilates-reformer inspired series using sliders for a full-body workout, or a power yoga block with weights to challenge stability and strength. Each session concludes with a serious glute burn and a final, quick stretch.
ACTIVE SENIORS
ACTIVE SENIORS is a class that includes a combination of low impact cardio, strength training, balance, aerobics, sports training, and tai chi. This social class varies from class to class to keep the body strong, healthy, and mobile as we mature. LU Gym Active Senior class is an approved community strength and balance programme certified by Sport Canterbury and Live For Stronger Longer. This is not included in LU Memberships. ACTIVE KIDS
ACTIVE KIDS is a class for 3-5 year old’s; it is great for improving fitness, co-ordination, strength, balance, flexibility, and confidence through play. Classes run with school term. See reception for details.
YOGA HIT
Experience yoga with a dynamic edge. This Yoga HIIT class blends flowing sequences with bursts of strength and light cardio to gently elevate your heart rate and build lean muscle. Expect stronger holds, purposeful movement, and a pace slightly quicker than our traditional yoga classes.
