 EPro8 Challenge - The Ferrets

Rachel Cummins —

Our Year 7 and 8 team had fun at this event which is an inter-school Technology and Science challenge.

Epro8 stands for Engineer, Problem Solve and Innovate.  Our team went to Belfast Primary School and competed against other schools from 5pm until 7.45pm completing a variety of challenges.

The Ferrets, comprising Georgia, Kayden, Lachlan and Arni chose the bridge challenge.  This involved building a bridge of certain specifications enabling a constructed car to travel across the top and trigger traffic lights.  Each time a challenge was completed they were awarded points.

It was very stressful for 4 mothers, 1 grandmother, 1 sister and 1 teacher watching these students as they were not allowed to make suggestions!!!  If they did the team would lose points.

The students had a great time and enjoyed wonderful success as they worked as a team and communicated their ideas, while listening to others and solving problems.

We look forward to the Year 5/6 team attending the same event at Opawa in a couple of weeks.
