Principal's Message

Brendan Wright —

Kia ora koutou e te Whānau

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori  was another packed week of learning for our tamariki.  Thank you to all our staff for your input and preparation for the week and for making the whānau group rotations a great success.

All the very best to Eve Poff and family. Eve takes up her maternity leave from next week and we are all looking forward to seeing the new Poff soon!   Monica Jack is taking up the fixed term roll in Totara until the end of the year.

A very warm welcome to school to Annabel and Mika who have started as new entrants in Harakeke.  A very warm welcome also to Gijs, Mathias and family, all the way from Belgium and now joining the Lyttelton  community.  Nau mai, Haere mai - Welcome!

Congratulations to all students who received values certificates in assembly today.  Nico F from Raupo was awarded  the Principal's Award for outstanding effort and perseverance as a leader for the Japanese dance group who performed at the Cultural Festival. Well deserved Nico.

Welcome to Shani who is a student teacher on placement with us in Harakeke for the next seven weeks working with the support of Francie and our staff. Good to have you with us.

Thank you for such a large turnout of parents and whānau at our school assembly this morning, always an entertaining end to the week for all. Reminder that our school assemblies are every second Friday starting at 9:15am and are another way for parents and whānau to engage with learning at school.

The School Choir visited Shirley Boys High School on Wednesday for a rehearsal for the Christchurch Schools Music Festival.  We are looking forward to seeing our choir perform at the Horncastle Arena next term on Friday 26 October.

Our School Rock Band - Lyttel Devils and Deevahs,  were outstanding at the Aupaki Rock Quest last night. What an amazing venue we have in the LAF for these types of events with professional sound, lighting and set up.  8 bands from 5 Aupaki Schools performed up on stage and it was impressive seeing the talent in our young people.  Thank you to Carmel Courtney for your work pulling our band together, to Darryl Cribb for the hours spent behind the scenes and to Mike Friend for the lighting work last night.  Lyttelton Primary School are fortunate to have such a high quality venue and the success of the evening was certainly evident from the very positive feedback.

Stay tuned for other Aupaki events coming up soon including the two day Tech Fest held at Sumner Primary  and the Speech Competition at Our Lady Star of the Sea week 1 of next term.  Aupaki Schools will also be singing at the Aupaki Music Festival on 31 October.

If you re keen to help out with coaching a team for summer touch rugby please read the details here and get in touch with us.

Enjoy spring weather over the weekend.

Kia pai tō rā whakatā
