Te karere a te tumuaki

Brendan Wright —

Kia ora e te Whānau, Nau mai haere mai! Welcome back to the 2020 school year.

Our children, staff and parents have re-connected after the summer break and learning programmes are underway for the year.

It is a pleasure to welcome the following new students and their whānau to Lyttelton Primary School. A warm welcome to you all.

Thank you to parents and whānau for the large turnout to our welcome back evening and catch up on Tuesday night.  The key messages from the evening covered:

  • building connections between parents
  • building connections with staff - key roles and responsibilities
  • building connections with the board of trustees - an update from our Board Chair (John Garrett) of the strategic goals from the feedback received from our community so far
  • building connections with Brendan - update on the school curriculum and the 2020 year overview
  • information on our placed based inquiry and broad learning context for inquiry term 1 and 2 of Mahinga kai. (see more here)
  • key messages regarding wearing hats, improving safety at pick up/drop off times, communication, swimming and learning conferences.

You may also be interested in reading 2020 update snapshots about learning at Lyttelton. This week we have focused on 'Place based Learning'.  Read the latest here in today's newsletter.

Please note the latest pānui from the Takaroa (Harakeke and Kōwhai) and Rakinui (Raupo and Totara) leaders of learning - Dinah Wallis and Rachel Cummins and as always if you have any questions for teachers and staff please email or come in to arrange a time for a meeting. Our 3-way student learning conferences are scheduled for week 4 so this is also an ideal opportunity to catch up and share specific questions and comments with teachers.

Good progress is being made on our new wheelchair accessible pathway from the learning spaces up to the netball court area and playground. Unfortunately it is just a little behind schedule but we look forward to having improved access to our school for all.

Please also see attached below the hard copy notice and email which was sent home on Tuesday about swimming instruction for the the next two weeks starting on Monday.  Children will need to bring their swimming gear and bag for wet gear everyday. 🏊🏼‍♂️ 🏊🏾‍♀️ an enjoyable weekend.
