BYOD - Bring Your Own Device
Lyttelton Primary School offers a BYOD programme for students in Years 5-8.
BYOD means that students can bring their own digital devices to school for their learning. The benefits of a successful BYOD programme are that it can enable 1:1 access to devices. Schools are unable to fund 1:1 devices so the more students who can bring their own device, the better access is for all.
According to the Ministry of Education website:
"a learner-centred curriculum that includes 1:1 digital devices supports greater flexibility in learning pathways, empowering students to learn in a more personalised way with increased control over their own learning. This can help students engage more deeply in their learning and lift their achievement".
Most intermediate schools and many primary schools now have compulsory BYOD. Our BYOD programme is still optional for years 5-8 in 2018, but our aim is to continue building on our current implementation including further consultation from whānau /community.
If you are interested in BYOD for your child, please ask the Rakinui teachers. They will provide you with a BYOD user agreement. You can also visit our BYOD site for further information.
