Canterbury Primary School Athletics

Diana Feary —

Ashburton was the host of the Primary Sport Canterbury Athletics day. Over 2000 children aged from 9 to 13 from around Canterbury and the West Coast participate.

Lyttelton Primary is part of the South East Zone and we had 13 representatives, including:

Minnie Edwards - High Jump

Venetia Larraman - High Jump, sprints and relay team

Lisa-Quan Webb - Relay Team

Joely Townley - Relay Team

Ruby Aitken - Relay Team and sprints

Haawi Whaitiri - Shot put

Max Townley - High Jump

Ronan Bigelow - 1200m distance run

Finn McLachlan - High Jump

Massimo Boggiani - Sprints

Rosa Hickey - sprints and long jump

Ngaio Dosher-Ozanne - 1200m distance run

Jackson Little - High Jump

These fine young athletes had to compete in 30+ degrees giving that additional challenge. To make it to the Canterbury’s is a great achievement and we are proud of all our athletes competing in this tough environment. Our girls' relay team placed 3rd overall which is an outstanding achievement.Ronan, Max , Haawi, Venetia, and Ruby placed in the top 10 in their events.

Our gratitude to Lisa, Leon, Bridget and Geoff,  who, along with Mrs Bigelow, drove our competitors to and from Ashburton and supported our athletes.
