Thank you to Lyttelton Port Company (L.P.C.) as they have been very generous in gifting the school garden surrounds. The timbers are truly impressive and the fact they came precut and fully installed on site! The timbers were lifted on to the site thanks to Marinetec who donated the use of a crane and Andrew the crane operator. Soil from Living Earth and Stark Bros Ltd delivering and lifting on to site.
On Wednesday morning the 10th of October Brett, our fantastic Caretaker (and in this case photographer), Andrew, Mark Anderson, Brent O'Leary, Lito Abarratigue and Mikie Redon from L.P.C were busy working.
Earlier in the year parents, teachers and students met with Kim Kelleher and Ivan Grooby from the L.P.C. to plan the garden area for the Outdoor Learning Space. This has always been part of the overall plan for Lyttelton Primary School. This meeting was a follow up from the Community Consultation in 2017. During that meeting, the design of the 4 protruding gardens, reminiscent of jetties at a wharf was decided on. Ivan then went away and found the timbers and prepared them for use.
Andrew from Marinetec operated the crane, lifted the timbers onto the site. Mark, Brent, and Lito did an awesome job putting everything together.
Brett also arranged for the Living Earth Company to bag soil at a discounted price for us which Stark Bros Ltd picked up and delivered to us getting it up onto the site with no cost.
We are so lucky to have such a generous and caring community. With so many people working together to provide an important resource for our tamariki. Thanks, is a small word but carries all our best wishes and aroha.
The timing of the garden arriving is perfect for us to work on in the fourth term. This area is an evolving picture so the placement of the garden is the first and crucial stage of this project. These historic, chunky timbers give character to our blank canvas that will be a feature to build on.
Thanks
