Learning our Mihimihi (Pepeha)

Janet Powell —

The mihimihi is about people getting to know each other. You are telling people where you come from and who you are.

The importance of everyone's mihmihi is about knowing and sharing the places we belong. Most people have done theirs around this place and others have done theirs around the places they were born such as Japan. Some people learned how to pronounce Maori language properly and say it without reading it.

We also learned about when someone is giving their mihimihi  they stand up and we have to listen quietly. When I was at Rapaki Marae, we had to be silent.
