EPro8 Win for Lyttelton Primary

Brendan Wright —

EPro8 win for Lyttelton Primary.

On Wednesday the seventh of June, four year 6 students (Zoey, Tashi, Alex and Rowan) from Lyttelton Primary, drove to Opawa school to participate in the EPro8 challenges.

The challenges included tasks such as building a stable bridge, making a four wheel vehicle, conducting lasers, suspending balloons and making them move over objects with electrical Fans and creating and naming a robot guard dog.

Each time our team completed a challenge or part of a challenge we would earn up to seventy points and move up on the leaderboard.

We stayed in the top four for pretty much all the time.

In the end it was a mad rush to earn points and get to the top. Everyone was finishing their challenges and we were dropping fast. Our vehicles wheels had buckled at the end of driving it over the bridge and we needed to secure the wheels on fully before we could get the points.

The scariest part was the last minute though, we were madly trying to fix our vehicle in time for the judge. We knew that if we didn’t finish this, we probably wouldn’t get into the semi finals.

The truth is, we didn’t get the last wing nut onto the car, we all thought it would collapse. It had been great fun though.

My fingers wouldn’t cooperate for the last screw, so we never got it on in time.

When the judge came over, all we could do was cross our fingers and hope that it wouldn’t fall to pieces.

The car managed to get all the way to the end of the bridge.

The judge scanned our barcode and awarded us the points that won us the challenge.

In the end, we had 280 points. The most tension in the room was when the judge announced the four highest scoring groups that were to proceed into the semi finals. He had just announced who was third place, and we were all itching to know if we were placed in second or first. He announced that there was no one in second place, and instead two groups tied in first place.

We all got awarded a certificate each and both winning groups a 3d printed trophy. It was a very enjoyable experience and we are looking forward to the next one.
