Rakinui visit to Gordon Walters exhibition

Rachel Cummins —

On Monday the 11th and Wednesday the 13th March Rakinui students went to view the Art Gallery's exhibition on the New Zealand artist Gordon Walters.

Rakinui was spread into three groups, one group on Monday and the other two on Wednesday. We were welcomed by Susie and Diane and then followed them as they retold the story of Gordon Walters’ life in his artwork.

We followed them into the exhibition of Gordon Walters’ art. Gordon Walters is a Wellington-born graphic designer and artist. He is significant to New Zealand culture due to his representation of New Zealand in his art. His art consisted of geometric abstract art, full of contrasting colours and different shapes. After seeing Gordon's art we all recreated his style in our own pieces with koru shapes just like Gordon did in his; hence it was inspired by him. After finishing our pieces and heading back to school we all are thankful for going and we now having the knowledge of Gordon Walters’ journey.
