The Dolphin Trip

On November the 28th of 2017 the year 4’s from L.P.S., Kowhai went on the Black Cruise their captain was Richard.

On the cruise, they were searching for Hector’s Dolphins. They saw a calf with its Mum, lots of Hector’s Dolphins, two penguins one was a blue penguin which is one of the rarest penguins, and a shipwreck. They spent 45 minutes out at the Harbour and 45 mins back to Lyttelton.

The Black Cat Cruise

On Tuesday the 28th of November the year fours went on a Black Cat Cruise to see Hector's Dolphins. At 9.45 am we walked down the road to the boat.

It was two stories tall and had a bar, there was a front deck and a roof deck. Soon after we got out of the docks, we saw our dolphins here is a poem Iona made about the dolphins:

The waves crash and

Dolphins leap

But there only there for a flash

So if you want to see them you'll have to be there

To please them as the boats come in

The dolphins swim

The squeals of children fill the air

The dolphins are really here!!

About halfway through our trip we saw a yellow eyed

Penguin It was really cute!!

H Dolphins- It was a beautiful day. The waves were crashing on the boat and the sun was beaming down. The salty seaspray splashed onto the hull of the boat. The wind blew as we raced across the water. When we got to the dolphin watching spot we kept our eyes peeled, we saw a lot of dolphins. I took a video of the dolphins surfacing, they shot a burst of water out of their breathing holes and made a panting noise before they dived down. We saw a dolphin with it’s calf, we saw a pod of dolphins. The dolphins dived and swept under the boat. They cut through the water and popped up to breathe, then dived under the water again. The sun shone and the wind blew, everybody had fun. It was very exciting, there was parent help along with my mum. We could go out the front of the boat where we could watch the dolphins coming up for air and spot their small rounded black dorsal fins, glinting in the sunlight. Sadly Kingsley couldn't come because of his broken elbow so I filmed some videos for him.  When we got back from the boat, we walked up from the wharf and back into school.  By Obi H
