Mānawatia a Matariki!
THANK YOU!
What an amazing celebration we had on Wednesday! It was awesome to see so many of our whānau join us to celebrate with learning, waiata and kai! Thank you all for your contributions; the students were buzzing with excitement and pride. We wish you all a happy Matariki and safe holiday. Please enjoy this Matariki poem written by Eve from Tōtara
It's the matariki new year, when we all gather around,
With a sky above, sparkling and clear, a hangi in the ground.
The temptation smokes, billowing and dancing with the air,
The nourishments have been boiling and sizzling but controlled with care.
My father hauls out the collection of fresh produce from the ground and sea,
The night blanket is slowly tucked in as the birds fall asleep in the trees.
I learn with the the knowledge from lessons,
And songs about the constellations and heavens,
And connections between the stars, the seven,
But now nine stars of Matariki.
