Litter-Free Lunch Tumeke!
Nature Rangers are on the lookout for litter-free lunch boxes. When they see one your tamariki will be given one of these (above) tokens, a Lyttel REP and go into the draw for beeswax wraps!
At the end of term 2, Nature Rangers undertook a rubbish audit. This is where all the rubbish from the school over one day was collected, sorted, counted and weighed.
We counted 105 plastic wrappers from prepackaged foods such as single-wrapped cookies, and single-wrapped bars, you get the picture. If we multiply that as an average day at Lyttelton Primary School to get the wrappers for a year, it makes a whopping 20, 600 wrappers.
This initiative was decided by a focus group. Acting to reduce the amount going to landfill.
