Athletic Zones Day at Hansen Park

Jeremy Orczy —

On Tuesday 10th November, on a warm spring day, the South-East Athletic Zones took place at Hansen Park.

The nerves were high and the weather started out not that great but then the sun came out and started to improve the day and no one got cold waiting for their events anymore!

If you place first or second in your schools Athletics you’re guaranteed a spot in the South East Zones!

There are eight activities to qualify for including… long jump, high jump, discus, shot put, distance, 50 and 60 metre sprints and 80 and a 100 metre sprints and last, but not least, relays! 12 schools participate for a place in the Canterburys. It’s a really competitive environment with some great athletes. We thought the standard was very high. Mrs Bigelow and Jeremy worked on the long jump and said that the competition was very strong. We all try to achieve to our personal best.

Lyttelton Primary School now has a number of representatives going to the Canterburys! At the end of the day everyone was happy about their personal best and no one was negative!
