Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) Emotional Regulation

Francie Graham —

This term we are looking at developing strategies to regulate our behaviour.

For the next 2 weeks we are looking specifically at which zone we might be in, at any one time. The green zone is where we want to be. If we’re not in the green zone, there are some strategies we can do to get ourselves back to the green.

Here’s some examples:

Green Zone – maintaining:

  • keep your eyes on the teacher
  • remember your daily goals
  • finish your homework
  • think happy thoughts
  • be a good friend
  • help others
  • work hard
  • smile

If you are in the Yellow zone:

  • talk to my parents/friends
  • take 3 deep breaths
  • do a wall push up
  • use a fidget
  • go for a walk
  • take a break
  • read
  • deep pressure
  • slow movement
  • heavy work to muscles
  • soft lighting
  • listen to music
  • chewy foods

If you are in the Red Zones:

  • take deep breaths
  • jump on a trampoline
  • relax your muscles
  • talk to an adult
  • sensory break
  • push the wall
  • count to 20
  • walk away
  • use deep pressure
  • slow movement
  • heavy work to muscles
  • soft lighting
  • listen to music
  • eat chewy foods
