Canterbury Museum visits L.P.S.

Royce Albrett —

Anthony, a Canterbury Museum educator, delivered the Hangarau Māori (Māori Technology) educational programme to our Tōtara students.

Our Year 7/8 students learnt how early Māori settlers applied their skills and knowledge together with the natural resources from the environment to develop tools and technologies to suit their survival needs and lifestyle in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The students enjoyed handling the artefacts to deepen their own understanding of the skills and processes used in creating taonga, tools and traps.

Anthony facilitated inquiry discussions on how the technologies such as hunting traps and gathering tools were used, allowing Māori to survive in Aotearoa.
