Digital Technology Festival 2023

Last week on Tuesday and Wednesday 25 kids from Tōtara took part in the 2023 tech fest!

This year's tech fest took place in Tūranga Library.

Kids were split into 3 groups, Habitation, Navigation and Innovation!

When everyone arrived, each kid received a bag including a tech fest t-shirt designed by student leaders, a lanyard with your time table and name, stationary and popcorn sponsored by Serious popcorn!

Our first activity was learning about the story of Rākaihautū and his navigation journey across Aotearoa. Each group had a theme, Tamatea, Rākaihautū and Tūterakiwhanoa.

We then did workshops including Podcast, Imovie, Robotics. Greenscreen, Animation, Laser Cutting, Minecraft, Badge making and more!

On the second day someone special came in. A man named Micah talked to us about how he created Banqer which is an app to teach kids to save money, learn how to invest and understand finances.

Bella's favourite part was the laser cutting and the podcasting.

Ceanna's favourite part was making a green screen background using green paint and then recording yourself telling Rākaihautū's story.
