Physical Activity for Wellbeing

Jenny Felton —

Mana Ake's latest topic is 'Physical Activity for Wellbeing', with recommended links to information for families/whānau.

Being physically active is one of the best things we can do for our health. Regular activity can improve our energy levels and mood, helps us to relax and sleep, and builds stronger bones and muscles. Check out these tips for being active, it may be easier than you think.

Keeping kids active

Everyone can benefit from being active, including children. We need at least 60 minutes of moderate or vigorous physical activity a day, but it doesn't need to be all at once. Several short 10-minute bursts throughout the day can be just as good. HealthInfo has tips for helping children be active.

Karawhuia! Give it everything!

Being active not only helps our physical health, but can also improve our overall mental and spiritual health and wellbeing. Check out Active Canterbury for tips and encouragement for the whole family/whānau to get started and stay motivated.

Help to get active

Sometimes a bit of support helps to get us started and stay motivated. Active Canterbury has programmes to help you get active and have fun along the way.

Active family/whānau fun

Being active at home can be great fun. Sport Canterbury has lots of ideas for using whatever equipment you have and adapting sports into games the whole family/whānau can enjoy.
