Principal's Message

Brendan Wright —

Kia ora e te whānau

Our deepest heartfelt condolences extend to Sayyad Milne's family at this time and to all families affected by the terrible events of last Friday.  Sincerest thank you to all for your support and aroha.

The past week has been unprecedented. I wish to thank all the Lyttelton Primary School staff for maintaining a sense of calm, reassurance and normality for the children here at school despite your own emotions.  Thank you for your dedication and professionalism this week.  You are a credit to the teaching profession.

Thank you to our parent community for the baking, cards and emails.  We all appreciated your thoughts and kindness.  At our school assembly today we expressed our message of aroha to the Milne's while reassuring our tamariki of school, home and their community as a safe and caring place.

We were fortunate this week to have many staff attend a presentation by Nathan Wallis,  brain development expert.  Nathan focused his presentation on trauma in relation to supporting  children. We know that there may be varying needs over the coming weeks and we are working to ensure we can provide appropriate support when needed.

Monday this week was our Aupaki Teacher Only Day at Rāpaki Marae with kaiako in attendance from Sumner, Redcliffs, Mt Pleasant, Heathcote Valley, Lyttelton, Star of the Sea Primary Schools, Linwood College and Busy C's pre school.   Along with a chance to plan for a difficult week ahead, the teacher only day had a significant focus on increasing staff understanding for culturally responsive practice.

Reminder about the Korari workshops for aspiring school trustees. Please have a look at the attachments to find out more.

Next week sees Raupo off to their school camp in Waipara. Great to see our children off to an exciting education outside the classroom learning opportunity at a fantastic school camp venue.

Enjoy some time with family this weekend.

Noho ora mai
