Rube Goldberg machines
As part of our Inquiry into energy and forces we investigated Rube Goldberg machines.
The Rakinui students have been making Rube Goldberg machines which are simple machines that do a simple task in a complicated way. We made them out of cardboard and things we found at home like old toys and whatever we could find to make simple machines to do easy tasks in a complex way. We spent two whole days creating these machines. Before we made these machines we learnt about simple machines that we then used in our machines. We tested them many times and when they were working we took videos of them and then photos that we then put on to our Google classroom. On the form we wrote about how many simple machines we used and how machines work and then we sent that form to our parents and family.
Then the younger students of the school came up to have a look at what we had made. We led them around looking at the other things that other people had made. They were so interested in some of the machines other people had made even though some of the machines weren't actually an operation. The classes came up one by one from the oldest kids to the youngest kids. All the machines did different things. For example our one made lemonade which did not taste very nice because it wasn’t made of actual lemon. Instead it was made of Lemon tea bags.
